Our HappinessFirst Behavioural Support Program is all about understanding why you or someone you care about might use inappropriate or challenging behaviour, and what can be done to build capacity and understanding in a safe and happier environment.

There are 4 key steps in our Behavioural Support Program:  

Step 1- Our Behavioural Support Counsellor conducts an initial assessment which helps us to understand how the participant likes to communicate through behaviour, and how this could be impacting others, in the home and socially. (In clinic appointment)

Step 2 – Our Behavioural Support Counsellor conducts an assessment on the participants environment (i.e. where they live, possibly work, common social places) to determine if this meets their everyday needs and wants, and how this could be influencing their communication or behaviour.

Step 3 – Once the Behavioural Support Counsellor has completed a detailed report, they put together a Positive Behaviour Support Plan or Skill Development Plan.  This plan is then discussed with the participant and/or their family and carers.  We then together agree on how to execute the plan and set goals, activities and review points.

Step 4 – The participant and/or their family and carers work and follow the plan with the support of the Behavioural Support Counsellor in order to achieve the desired goals! The length of this step is based on the participant’s abilities, age and goals they wish to achieve.

Together we can make change, in some cases it may only be little steps but remember the ocean is only a collection of little drops, like little steps.
